Services

Services we provide include:

  • Tuning. All pianos need regular tuning to sound their best. Every 6 months is recommended. In addition, a piano that has gone far out of tune may require a pitch adjustment before it can be fine-tuned.  I charge $160 for a standard tuning and $40 extra for pitch adjustment (prices include New Mexico gross receipts tax).
  • Regulation. This consists of adjusting the piano’s action, or  playing mechanism, to achieve optimal performance. Piano actions are made largely out of wood, felt, and cloth. These materials compress and wear out over time, causing a decline in playability. The piano may start to feel clunky and hard to control, and notes may fail to sound when a key is played. Regulation improves a piano’s evenness, speed of repetition, and dynamic range. Many piano owners don’t realize the dramatic difference in expressiveness that can be achieved through regulation.
  • Repair/Reconditioning. Pianos can require a wide range of repairs. We are equipped to perform most low- to medium-level repairs, such as replacing broken action parts and strings, rebushing keys, etc. In certain situations, full restringing and action rebuilding may be practical. For procedures such as case refinishing or soundboard replacement we can refer you to another qualified company or technician.
  • Humidity Systems. Change in humidity is the main reason pianos go out of tune. To combat this, a humidity system can be installed in a piano to keep moisture at the optimum level, causing the piano to stay in tune longer. You can read more about these systems here: http://www.pianolifesaver.com/english
  • Evaluations. Accurate knowledge of the condition and value of a piano is important for many reasons. You may be considering selling your piano or purchasing a new one. You may be thinking about a donation or giving the piano to a family member. We provide evaluations based on a thorough inspection of the piano and our knowledge of recent sales, giving you our opinion of its fair market value.
